Countdown December 16, 2010

While we all are busy getting ready to celebrate Jesus' birthday with our families and friends, the Thailand Mission Team is also getting ready to head to Thailand. We are down to 19 days before we leave and there are a lot of mixed emotions going through each of us. Excitement, fear, nervousness, giddiness....

There have been a few changes for the contruction team due to some unexpected circumstances, but we will now be heading to a refugee camp called Mae La Oon, which is located on the Burma border, just a little SW of Ma Saring. We will be building 2, possibly 3, bamboo huts to be used as housing for children in an orphanage.

We are excited to see what God has in store for us. Please continue to keep us in your prayers.

The Missions Team Has Returned!

This is the Medical/Construction Team that went to Thailand February 2010. The trip was overwhelming for most of us. It opened our eyes like never before. The need, the despair, the lack of hope we found with the Burma refugees was heart rendering. At the same time the thankfulness of anything we could give them was so great it made us feel so humble. Words cannot express the emotions we felt over the two weeks we were there. That is why most of us are planning to go back again next year in January 2011.

Thailand Trip - January 4- 18, 2011

We are teaming up with nine people from Kenosha First Assembly church in Kenosha, WI, which is Dave Kiensz's (our missionary in Thailand) home church.

Our first destination is to the Karen widows' refugee camp. There we will set up a medical/dental clinic and will witness to the Karen widows and their children. Give them a day of make-overs, pamper them, and give them hope through our witness. The medical team will consist of: J Patrick Callison, DDS, Brenda Harshman, DO, Patti Wright, dental assistant, Lorraine Koehn, nurse, Donna Gray, pharmacy technician, Tamyra Callison, vision technician.

The construction team will be hiking to a remote village, Jasider, to build a church and some squatties (bathrooms). It will be a large elevated church with a tin roof. The construction team consists of: Brent Duffett, Jim Irwin, Brenda Layfield, Lydia Stutzman, Larry Kleinhart, David Dickey, Christine Sian, Kim and Susan Geiger.

Your prayers are what we cherish the most. Please pray that God will prepare our way, with getting through customs, safe travels, health, and effectiveness in communicating to the refugees and Karen tribes with the hope of Jesus Christ.

On Friday, February 12th, ten of us flew over to Bangkok, Thailand, where we met up with Keith Irwin (Jim's son who is a missionary with YWAM 'Youth with a Mission' in Bangkok) and Cara Callison, Pat & Tamyra's daughter (who flew up from Indonesia to dental assist her Dad).
We arrived in Chiang Mai Sunday morning and were met by Dave Kniesz, missionary in Thailand and 6 other drivers with trucks.  The medical supplies were already purchased by Dave and loaded in the trucks.  We threw our stuff in and off we headed.

After four hours of driving we arrived at the first location where the medical team would set up.  It was a government supported, gated school where kids from the local villages come and are fed 2 meals a day, and taught the basics.

Missions Trip Update-

The Medical/Construction Team arrived safely and on schedule in Thailand, and sailed through customs.

Below is an update from David received Monday, February 15th:

Thank you so much for all your love, support and prayers. I had to drive out to the mountain to get more medical supplies and was able to get a signal on my iphone.
Just a quick report for you, both teams are working tirelessly, the medical team has been a huge blessing as people are walking great distances to see Pat and Brenda. Today Pat will have his hands full with many children. Jennie is a great help passing out meds etc. The toilet project is also going great. Yesterday we installed 12 of the 13 latrines. Today they are pouring the floors. A great blessing arose for the villagers because of this project, too much to share via Iphone.

Love you so much,

David Kniesz
